Innovative Cornish designer-makers sixixis win the inaugural Laurent-Perrier Design Talent Award
 
David Hesketh, Managing Director of Laurent-Perrier, awarded the first Laurent-Perrier Design Talent Award to sixixis at a press breakfast held at the InternationalDesigner Rooms area of Olympia on 29 June 2006. sixixis, members of Hidden ArtCornwall, were selected from a bank of talented and creative Hidden Art designer-makers exhibiting at the 2006 Daily Telegraph House & Garden Fair. The Cornish trio impressed judges including author and curator Max Fraser, directorof the Geffrye Museum David Dewing, MD of Laurent-Perrier, David Hesketh,Interiors Editor at Telegraph Magazine Annabel Freyberg, and Editor of House &Garden Sue Crewe. The award was judged on the following criteria: innovation,quality, visual impact and commercial viability. As winners, sixixis receive £1,000 prizemoney and a trip to Champagne, France along with a case of champagne.
 
sixixis’ three members, Tom Raffield, Charlie Whinney and Chris Jarratt, studied 3DDesign for sustainability at University College Falmouth. From their Redruth-basedstudio, the design group create striking pieces, which are all made from locally sourcedwood. Developing unique steam bending techniques has seen the trio achieve newand innovative products more than deserving of this prestigious award.
 
Other Hidden Art members Charles Trevelyan and Jenny Wilkinson were the award’s runners up, both being commended highly by the judges. Jenny’s range of interactive wallpaper and Charles’ dedication to producing high quality interior products with character ensured that they won a case of champagne each.
The Laurent-Perrier new design Gallery with Hidden Art will present the UK’s top up-and-coming
designer-makers of interior products at the House and Garden Fair. The show will offer visitors the rare opportunity to buy original pieces from emerging young talent.
