Celebrating the 10^th birthday of its signature Open Studios event, Hidden Art will open a temporary pre-Christmas Shop from 6 November – 22 December 2004, an exciting new retail venture near Spitalfields where the public can buy the work of Hidden Art designer-makers under one roof.

 

The Hidden Art Shop will provide access to contemporary design at its source. There will be a chance to meet the maker, find out more about retail products or commission one-off pieces, and buy into a future design name.

 

Work by 100 contemporary designer-makers will be for sale in the Shop, including photographic interior products by Dominic Crinson and Ella Doran, hand painted textiles by Cressida Bell, quirky ceramics by Helen Johannessen and WEmake, elegant upholstery by Richard Ward and eco-design products by Spinifex Design. There will be a chance to buy a variety of work ranging from bags, hats, ceramics, wallpaper, rugs, jewellery, interior accessories and lighting.

 

There will also be the opportunity for design enthusiasts to visit more than 50 venues participating in the Hidden Art Open Studios this year, where contemporary furniture, lighting and products are designed and made. For the first year, these are taking place all over London for six weeks from 13 November - 24 December. The Shop will advertise the opening times and locations of the open studios. 

 

Hidden Art designer-makers make up a significant part of London's design industry. The proliferation of small studios around areas of east London such as Shoreditch, Hoxton and Hackney gave rise to the development of the creative zones for which London is now internationally renowned.

The Hidden Art Open Studios Maps and Guide will be published in the Winter Hidden Art Magazine from November 3 and on Hiddenart.com. These studios are not normally open to the public and arrangements must be made for visiting them outside these hours.
