Ella Doran, Gitta Gschwendtner, Jocelyn Warner and Terence Woodgate are among the UK’s design industry leading lights heading the line-up for this year’s Hidden Art Forum.  Run by the creative business support agency Mazorca Projects for the fifth year running, the Hidden Art Forum offers designer-makers the chance to learn vital tricks from top industry names. This year the Forum focuses on three key motives for designing: to raise profile, design for commission, and design for production.

Design for Profile - Competition organisers including Bombay Sapphire, Formica Ltd, the Crafts Council and Jerwood Foundation discuss with design journalists what they look for in potential winners.  OXO/Peugeot Award winning designers Tom Seymour and Helen Murray share their experiences of winning major design prizes.

Design for Commission - Commissioners of large public art works, Canary Wharf Group and  Tony Fretton Architects (Camden Arts Centre, Lisson Gallery) discuss howthe client sees their relationship with the designer, what they are looking for and what they expect when choosing a designer. Jocelyn Warner and Pepper-mint’s Patricia Adler are among top designers offering their advice on dealing with clients whilst working on commission projects.

Design for Manufacture - CTO Lighting and sheet materials manufacturer 2pm Ltd are among the companies discussing how they approach relationships with designers when commissioning designs for production. RCA alumni and OXO/Peugeot design award winners MoselyMeetsWilcox offer experience of experimenting with materials and processes in their work for manufacturers. Furniture, product and exhibition designer Gitta Gschwendtner and product designer Chris Jackson share their experience of presenting work to clients and communicating their ideas.

The aim is to provide a wider understanding of how the industry operates, as well as identifying the skills designers require to market products and ideas successfully or to promote themselves as creative businesses.

The event will be in Furniture Works - the design resource centre at London Metropolitan University, providing professional facilities, services and courses for designers and manufacturers of furniture, furnishings and products. A free information pack including a list of exhibitors and participants, along with details of support agencies, will be available over both days.
