Design visionaries sixixis were presented with the inaugural Laurent-Perrier Design Talent Award at an early morning press breakfast on the first day of The Daily Telegraph House & Garden Fair 2006. Still buzzing from the excitement of winning a major award, a case of champagne, £1000 and a trip to Champagne, Tom Raffield and Chris Jarratt sat down to chat with us.

How do you feel?
Tom: Happy
Chris: Very Happy
Tom: And surprised too, we never thought for a second that us from Cornwall would win anything or even come runner up. We’re a new company, only set up in January, so to come this far in such a short space of time, it feels really good.
Chris: It’s very flattering as well; to have so much interest in what we are doing.
Tom: It’s nice to know we are doing something right too. This is the first award we have received.

What is next for sixixis?
Tom: We’ve got a really busy summer ahead actually; we are doing loads of local exhibitions and fairs. We’ve got 100% East where we’ve got out own space. We are also exhibiting our seven metre wooden sphere, the summerhouse, which is going to have spikes and bits of steam-bent wood everywhere. It’s going to stick out like a sore thumb. That’s why Charlie (Whinney, sixixis’ third member) can’t be here today, he’s in Cornwall working on one for a wood fare next week.

What are you going to be showing at Godolphin House?

Tom: Bits of furniture in the curated section, so we will be all around the house. We’ll have our own stand where we will have lampshades.
Chris: And our new curvy crazy flower pots which are a bit different.
Tom: We’ll have the big rolling summerhouse too, so all in all, there will be a lot of wood.
