Pitch Your Ideas Successfully

We have a fantastic opportunity for a select number of designer-makers to practice pitching ideas to a panel of UBS Investment bank employees. They will be able to advise you about many aspects of your business.
Who: Open to Hidden Art Level 2 Innovative Routes to Market members
(places are limited, so first come first served) – eight places available
Thursday 3 April, at UBS Investment Bank
What:
You will receive advice and be given the opportunity to present your business ideas to a panel of UBS Investment Bank staff. This will be followed by feedback on your presentation.
Introductory Marketing Session
2 April, 6 – 8pm
All Networking Sessions are FREE, run on the first Wednesday of the month at Hidden Art.

Saru has extensive management experience and a keen interest in the creative industries across all spectrums. She is particularly interested in looking at innovative ways of business promotion and how different mediums can work together.

Since completing her MA, Lauren set up her own design company in London, where she works with manufacturers to produce her designs in small production runs for retail outlets as well as continuing to work on one-off pieces for gallery spaces. Recent commercial collaborations include concept car fabrics for Renault and a product collection for Habitat.
Mathew Wilson
Creative Director, With Associates
In 2004 With Associates was set up, an agency designed to provide a more intimate and understanding way of working, with clients ranging from sole-trading crafts people, to global home-swapping networks. Mathew will be talking about quick and simple ways to market yourself online, and looking at how your website should be your most important marketing tool.

Milan Research Bursary
Are you going to Milan as a visitor to research the shows? If you are a Hidden Art London Level 2 member then you may be able to use a Hidden Art Support Voucher (50% of the total cost up to £100) to contribute towards your costs. Hidden Polymers CAD 1-2-1 Session
Wednesday 30 April 2008 - Hour Long Sessions
Eligibility: Hidden Polymers participants only (Priority to those who have had 1-2-1’s to discuss their project. Innovative Routes to Market members can express an interest and go onto a reserve list, should space be available)

100% Futures Competition
18-21 September 2008
Deadline: May 1. 100% Design would like to offer all Hidden Art members the opportunity to win a stand of around 40m² to 60m² of exhibition space on which to build their own installation in 100% Futures.
This is your opportunity to create something different and unexpected in a creative and fresh arena. We realise that the space you take is usually constrained by budget – this is your opportunity to branch out and do something different.
The criteria for the installation is open; you can explore a current theme or topic in the design industry; showcase a project or product you are working on or simply showcase your company in an interesting and unconventional manner. The winner will be chosen by the 100% Design panel (see website for further details of panel members).

Work Placement for New Designers
Hidden Art are offering a work experience position to coincide with their appearance at New Designers.
The position will involve contacting / targeting Universities, preparing material, learning about membership procedures and structure, working at the event, entering contacts onto the database and corresponding with contacts.
The placement will run for approximately two months from mid/late May till mid/late July – 1 day a week, increasing to 2 ½ days per week during event.
This unpaid placement will offer priceless experience working in a membership organization, give access to the New Designers show and provide experience in a range of other areas.
Hidden Polymers Half Day Modules
12 – 14 May 2008
Eligibility: Open to all Innovative Routes to Market members, priority to Hidden Polymers members.
Free
Places are now available for the Hidden Polymers half day modules.
Each day runs from 9.30 – 5pm. Lunch is included.
The day is split into two and will offer a fantastic opportunity to gain knowledge and skills regarding various polymer processes. Those who sign up for Day 3 will be required to attend all day.

Product Review and Pricing
Deadline : 7 May.
We have a fantastic opportunity for a select number of designer-makers to recieve product and pricing review ideas from a panel of UBS Investment bank employees.
Thursday 15 May (2 hours in the morning or afternoon) at own studio

Who
Open to Hidden Art Level 2 Innovative Routes to Market members.
Maximum 6 designer-makers (within no more than a 15 minute drive from Liverpool Street station)
What
Those selected will be visited by between 2-3 industry experts from UBS Investment Bank and will receive support and advice on:
Products sold, optimizing revenue streams and reducing costs, focusing specifically on pricing and revenue structures.
Designer-Maker in residence at Waddesdon
From 12 June – 26 July
An opportunity is available for a Hidden Art member to have work showcased at Waddesdon Manor from 12 June – 26 July. The work should in some way connect to the garden, landscape, the organic, or horticulture and will be on show and for sale in the plant centre. Whilst on display the work remains that of the designer-maker. On any work that is sold Waddesdon will take a commission of 20%. Your actual presence at Waddesdon during this period can be discussed with Waddesdon in more detail.

Milan Accommodation Forum
For those who need accommodation during Milan Furniture Fair this year, we have established an online forum allowing you to network and team up with other designer-makers. If you need someone to share with, know of good accommodation, or are completely at a loss where to stay, get online and start sharing.

Submit Products for the Hidden Art E-Shop
The Hidden Art E-Shop’s next product assessment is taking place on 11 April. Ideal products for this period will be along a Spring/Summer theme.
New E-Shop Criteria
Current and future E-Shop participants should keep their eyes peeled for the new E-Shop selection criteria. The E-shop team are currently working hard on the new documents, which will apply to both existing and new products on the site. When ready they will be made available at

Wood Awards - Furniture Category
Deadline: 21 May
Entries are invited for furniture to the highest standards of design. Made as either individual pieces, or as batches from small workshops as well as larger manufacturers. Anyone may enter any piece(s) with the permission of the current owner.
The Criteria
The Wood Awards is looking to acknowledge and encourage the finest design and craftsmanship in UK furniture. There is no restriction on materials except that the dominant material must be wood in some form or other. The independent panel of judges will be looking particularly for innovative or creative use of wood, a high standard of response to a client brief, and excellence in execution.

Hand Made in Britain are looking for Designer- makers who produce their work in Britain in one the following fields: Jewellery , Fashion and Fashion accessories, Glass, Metal, stone and wood work, Ceramics, Home Accessories, Stationary and Silversmith, to take part in Handmade 2008 @ Chelsea Old Town Hall, London.

Camden and Islington Bursaries
Innovation Central award bursaries to help innovative businesses in Camden and Islington to grow and prosper. You can apply for an award of up to £3,500 towards the cost of developing and implementing your business plan.
There are deadlines each quater, rolling throughout the year.
12 bursary awards are made each year. They select only the highest calibre of applicant for this funding and the emphasis is on high-growth businesses, which will create new jobs and business opportunities within Camden and Islington. Your application documentation will be carefully vetted to ensure clear validation of your credentials, the commercial potential of your business idea, and your commitment and determination to succeed.
