Hidden Art in Milan, April 2009
Hidden Art will
be returning to the SaloneSatellite for the fourth year during the Milan
Furniture Fair 2009.
SaloneSatellite is the ideal show for young aspiring designer-makers wishing to
launch a prototype, gain potential press coverage and make contacts with
manufacturers. If you are interested in showcasing at the event with Hidden
Art, application information and downloadable application forms can be found

that you need to be a London or Cornwall Member and 35 years old or younger to apply for
this opportunity.

Hidden Art will return to 100% Design for the 12th
year in September 2008.
Exhibiting the work of 13 designer-makers including
Hidden Art Select 2008, as well as work from Hidden Art London and Hidden Art
Cornwall designer-makers.
Hidden Art Select kids will also be launched at the show.

A
collection of Hidden Art members will be participating in an exhibition curated
by Scene, Lina Meier and Something From Nothing.
Hidden Art Select kids at Geffrye Musuem
Hidden Art Select kids teamed
designer-maker Ella Doran up with St. Paul’s Way Community School
pupils, Jewel Ahmed and Zahanggir Hussain. The trays that resulted from
this collaboration will be
showcased at the Geffrye Museum from 16 September 2008, including
information
about the processes used.
September Networking Session – Utilising the Web
Wednesday 3 September 6-8pm
This
Networking Session, held at Hidden Art, looks at how designer-makers can make the most
of emerging internet technologies, utilise the internet as a platform to be
seen and sell from and discover new developments in online marketing.

Art members can attend the monthly Networking Sessions for FREE. If you

Hidden
Art Open Studios
The Hidden Art Open Studios Event, now in its 15th
year, is aimed at helping designer-makers make direct sales to the public
in the lead up to Christmas, through opening the doors to their studios, or
having a stall at a Hidden Art Fair.
The deadline for applications is 5
September 2008, but apply early to secure your place and maximise
your publicity opportunities.
100% Futures Winner
Jonas Wagell
An
exclusive competition, open only to Hidden Art members, gave away space within
100% Futures for a designer-maker to exhibit a concept piece.
We
are excited to announce that international member Jonas Wagell from Stockholm,
Sweden is the successful applicant for 2008.
Jonas will be presenting A House
of Jonas Wagell; an installation with his own work showing the aesthetical
relationship between products, furniture and architecture.
This will be a study
of how objects relate to space, and how spatial conditions are constituted by
architecture.

cultures in your work?

Dieneke Ferguson (Hidden Art’s
Chief Executive) is taking part in New Design magazine’s ‘passionate about’
feature. The feature will be image-led, over a double page spread. Her passion
is the fusion of different cultures and multiculturalism and she is keen to
include images of work from Hidden Art members in the submission. She would
like to hear from designer-maker members whose work is inspired by different
cultures, or consists of a fusion of different cultures. This could be in the
form of techniques, forms, themes etc. If you fit the bill, then email Dieneke
Ferguson

The Product Design Workshop – Working with Chinese Clients Deadline: 5 September
The Product Design Workshop – Working with Chinese Clients, is part of the UK Design in
China Seminar jointly organised by Creative Connexions and TECAtech. The
date of the seminar is Monday 22 September
2008. As part of the London Design Festival 2008, this is the first event
in a series of high profile discussions looking at what UK design can achieve
in China and what specific design criteria apply when designing for the Chinese
market.
This seminar will explore the different approaches to
innovation and design between the UK and China, providing insights into the
differences and illustrating some of the opportunities and challenges for
design firms working in China.
The seminar will take place at Asia House, 63 New Cavendish Street, London W1G 7LP and is divided
into four sections.

ID Magazine Annual Design Review
I.D. is now
accepting entries into the 2009 Annual Design Review. Winners will
appear in the July/August 2009 issue of I.D— the Annual Design Review
issue.
Since
1954, the Annual Design Review has recognized the best in product,
furniture, graphic, and environment design, from the iconic to the
obscure. Throughout the years, this annual showcase has chronicled the
evolution of design, and highlighted its impact on our material and
visual culture. Each year, the featured work is chosen by a jury of
leading practitioners, who, along with I.D.'s editorial team, focus the
abundance of submissions into a clear survey of the state of design.
