HIDDEN ART OPPORTUNITIES

Hidden Art Select 2008

* 2007
Following the success of Hidden Art Select's Launch in 2007, the programme will return in the New Year. Open to all Hidden Art Innovative Routes to Market Members who have been trading for 18 months or more, the programme offers structured assistance to take designer-makers' projects from ideas to manufacture and the market. The selected projects will also be sold through the Hidden Art E-Shop. A detailed email will be sent in early december, but for now here are some tenative dates to bear in mind:
  • Expressions of Interest deadline: 11 January 2008.
  • Information sessions assiting brief completion will take place in mid-January 2008.
  • Briefs submitted: 31 January 2008 (format to be announced).

More details will be sent directly to Level Two members, as well as being announced in future e-newsletters.



Recruitment at Hidden Art: Graphic Designer/Art Worker (P/T)

 
We are seeking a Graphic Designer/Art Worker (P/T 4 days a week) to design in-house marketing material, liaise with printers and suppliers and manage the online designer-maker directory and images library.

Recruitment at Hidden Art: Market Research Coordinator (P/T) - New Post

 
We are seeking to appoint a Market Research Coordinator (P/T 4 days a week)  to support the Chief Executive and the Hidden Art team with gathering external market intelligence and evaluate existing programmes so that Hidden Art can continue to provide an innovative, integrated support network for the designer-maker sector.

Hidden Art Annual Survey - win a £150 Voucher
 
If you haven't done so yet, there is stil time to give your feedback on what you would like us to do at Hidden Art to help you develop your business and meet your needs and aspirations.
 
If you are a Hidden Art designer-maker member or have been a member, we would like to hear from you. The survey will have already been emailed to you earlier this week.

The evaluation takes only 15 minutes to complete the questionnaire and you will be entered in a draw to win a £150 voucher to be spent at the Hidden Art E-Shop www.hiddenartshop.com.

Hidden Art Awards Exhibition

A selection of Hidden Art members nominated for the Hidden Art Awards will be exhibiting their work at Rich Mix Gallery from 6-17 December. The gallery is located at Rich Mix, 35-47 Bethnal Green Road, London E1 6IA. To see a list of the nominees up for Hidden Art Awards visit the Awards page.

The fourth Annual Hidden Art Awards ceremony, to mark the achievements of Hidden Art members, will take place on Thursday 13 December at Rich Mix on Bethnal Green Road. 

Exhibitors at last year's Awards exhibition included Established & Sons, Anthony Dickens, Snowden Flood, Fly Pitcher, Michelle Mason, Scabetti and Headsprung!



Forum Podcasts

Podcasts from the Hidden Art Forum held in September are now available to download. If were unable to attend the event, or would like to revisit some of the topics covered, MP3 recordings of everyone's talks are available in the Forum section of the Hidden Art website.

Marking its 8th year, the Hidden Art Forum was yet another great success for 2007. With an array of speakers covering many different expertise areas, the forum provided knowledge, insight and and sound strategies for future planning.

‘Anticipating the Future’ discussed globalisation, British design within the global industry and innovation and the environment. Speakers for this year's event included; David Dewing (Chair), Director of the Geffrye Museum, Ben Evans, Director of the London Design Festival, Committee, Max Fraser and keynote closing from Jeremy Myerson (RCA).

Podcasts of November's Networking Session (Legal Issues in Craft and Design) are also available for your listening pleasure.



Eshop Christmas Holiday Operating


The Hidden Art E-Shop team will be checking on orders between Christmas and New Year, but will only be dealing with urgent customer orders/deliveries.

Environmental Health Check Workshop

Friday 7 December, 10 am -12 pm
At Metropolitan Works, London Metropolitan University, 41 Commercial Road, London E1 1LA.

Environmental support that is practical, straightforward and designed to meet your needs.
 
The London Environment Centre (LEC) in association with Metropolitan Works and with funding from the Manufacturing Advisory Service is offering Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) the opportunity to participate in an Environmental Self Audit workshop designed for the manufacturing & process based sector.
 
Participants will be taken through an Environmental Health Check. This will help them identify their main environmental impacts and learn about the main environmental legislation likely to affect them. This is a simple and cost-effective way for you to begin to understand the environmental issues which affect you and how you can reduce them.

United Nations Design Competition

Design21, the social design network, has launched a competition centred around the United Nations.
 
The Brief: Create Designs that promote the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

Starts: December 2007

Deadline: April 2008

Bicycling Design Competition
 
Design21 are also running a competition aimed at helping to promote cycling.
 
The Brief: Design products and systems that promote bicycling as an everyday lifestyle.

Deadline: March 2008

How to Develop your Products

Evening course @ Central Saint Martins

This is a course to assist you in developing your prototype into a product.

You might be:
  • A graduate from a design course (6 months to a year and a half),
  • An independent professional designer or architect working full-time on other jobs,
  • An employed designer working full or part-time for another designer,architect or in any other employer.

If you are struggling to get your own idea off the ground, this course can assist you.

The course runs from 10 January – 13 March.
