As design events go, the Village Fete at the V&A is one of the most relaxed gatherings ever attended. The aim of the show is to bring design to the people, breaking down preconceptions of designers and their work and providing interaction with design to the masses. This year, the 7th for the Village Fete, was no exception. A huge crowd turned out for the event, which only swelled as the long summer evening progressed.
Scarlet Projects, the organisers of the event, aim to bring architecture and design to a wider public audience by making it more accessible and enjoyable to the everyday viewer. The Village Fete explores new and interesting ways of presenting and promoting design and architecture.
Highlights of the event included Teatime Pingpong, which involved serving a ping pong ball into teacups to win biscuits and Design Your Own Book Cover, run in association with Penguin Books. The Village Fete 2006 was given the theme of Fish and Chips, very English. Surprisingly enough, the weather was less English and the sunshine stayed for the entire evening.
The V&A Village Fete was a success again this year, emphasising the human touch in design, something we aim to achieve here at Hidden Art.
