Press Release
Hidden Treasure- a trail of discovery
Hidden Art Schools
Open Studios 2006
- Friday 24 November
- Friday
1 December
Hidden Art will organise two school days as part of this year’s annual
Hidden Art Open Studios event that takes place during the weekend of 25/26
November and 2/3 December with designer-makers opening up their studios to the
general public.
Hidden Treasure will involve participating pupils from local schools
touring designer maker’s studios to help them explore and investigate aspects
related to their National Curriculum Key Stage 3 and 4 Design and Technology
work.
Participating
pupils will be given a ‘map’ to fill in answers to questions or to chart the
unique processes they learn from the designer makers they visit as they follow
a trail of discovery.
Eighteen
participating Hidden Art designer makers from 15 venues, will set tasks and
activities, lasting approximately half-an-hour to 40 minutes, for visiting
pupils to discover innovative processes ranging from furniture making and glass
blowing to ceramics and millinery.
Pupils can then
take back to the classroom, inspiration and insight drawn from the studio
visits to develop into an Online Exhibition, which will concentrate on form
and function of innovative product design, and knowledge and
understanding of local enterprise, both vital aims and objectives of Design
and Technology at Key Stages 3 and 4.
An Online Forum will
be set up so that pupils can share ideas with other participating schools and
get feedback from designer makers as they develop and produce an online
exhibition.
This is an excellent opportunity for
schools to participate in this Open Studios project not only to help support
Key Stage 3 and 4 Design and Technology work but also to see first-hand, local
design enterprise in action. We are keen to hear from secondary schools based
in the Hackney and Tower Hamlets areas.
