Sally Lees designs and makes exquisite jewellery at her London studio, Cockpit Arts, focusing mainly on providing collections of uniquely individual cufflinks for the stylish urban gent.
Each pair of cufflinks is meticulously hand-made using combinations of silver and polished aluminium reminiscent of Japanese lacquer which is then printed in patterns taken from the designer’s original flower drawings and dyed vibrant colours. The printing technique adds to the hand drawn aspect making the drawings resemble antique sketches.
Prices range: £70 - £250. Prices for commissions on application.
Inspired by the English seaside Sally has created the quirky ‘Deckchair Stripe’ cufflinks collection by painting stripes onto aluminium surfaces and using a technique similar to batik to provide a textured feel to the designs. Additional collections with abstract patterns are inspired by mahjong pieces and 1950’s fabric designs.
Silver is decorated using fine lined photo-etched drawings of roses, carnations and orchids to produce delicate yet masculine cufflinks, tie pins and money clips in addition to bangles, rings and military style tags. The collection for 2008 uses 22ct gold details to create a luxurious effect.
Cufflinks are produced in limited edition runs, packaged in smart leatherette boxes and are accompanied by a certificate stating their limited edition number. A bespoke service for weddings and special occasions is also available.
