Alexandra Abraham is a painter. But she also makes jewellery which is inspired by her mother’s heirloom button box, her father’s old coins, her huge collection of sea glass, shells, pebbles, ceramic shards from ancient gardens and Venetian glass smalti. Alexandra embeds carefully chosen pieces from her collection, many of them rare and irreplaceable, into paste and then wraps each brooch or pendant in 22 carat gold or aluminium leaf and rubs back the surface to reveal vibrant colours, rich textures, images and patterns. Almost like alchemy, the micro-thin metal transforms each selection of materials into a desirable treasure. Alexandra also makes beautiful painted panels encrusted with dynamic gilded mosaic bands also incorporating items from her collection of found objects. Inspired by the decorative qualities of paintings by Gustav Klimt and the rich, icon encrusted interiors of Russian Orthodox churches, the panels can be made in any size. Working to commission Alexandra can incorporate your own precious pieces into her jewellery and painted panels to create something entirely new which will have enduring sentimental value. £45 - £150 Jewellery £350 - £2000 painted panels |
