After training in traditional and contemporary plastering and building techniques I studied in Italy, where I was introduced to range of methods and styles which have been popular there throughout history. I was particularly drawn to the style known as Scagliola. In simple terms this is a technique in which Plaster of Paris is combined with dry pigment and glue to create a finish of marble like appearance. This method is reputed to be used by the Ancient Egyptians, but it has been popular in its present form in Italy since the mid 18th century. In Britain fine examples can be found in Buckingham Palace, Syon House, the Reform Club and Tatton Hall. I have developed my own ideas and methods to produce Scagliola and have introduced these into the traditional techniques. I am able to offer a huge range of colours, effects and finishes which if required be inlaid in a variety of ways. I create mirrors, wall panels and tabletops. Each is unique and is accompanied with its own product number. My work is equally at home in a contemporary setting or would grace the more formal interior. My work is collectable and, I believe, tomorrows heirlooms. I welcome individual commissions. £400 - £1000 |
