Jeff Bell Glass Casts design, manufacture and install architectural cast glass elements such as sculpture, decorative screens and furniture. Their specialism is large-scale casting and colouring of soda lime and lead crystal glass. The nature of glass is one of contradiction: chemically defined as a fluid, our senses reveal it to be solid. The slumping and casting process uses these qualities, its flow is increased with temperature and when cooled its flow is frozen recording the process by capturing texture, contours and air echoing geological structures which have gone through similar processes. The random elements of the process hint at tangential forms. It is this reiterative process of incident, recognition, action and refinement that has fuelled the progress of recently produced work.
