Formtank was created in January 2008 by designer George Rice after the successful commission of 2fold, a radically designed conference room table. George’s passion for creativity is driven by a need to rationalise. The abundance of over designed buildings and objects only act to re-enforce his motivation. His approach is always to think laterally and take several steps back in order to find a solution. Considering the importance of Environmental Design, George set the brief for 2fold to tackle two main objectives; Do more with less. Exploiting the inherent strength of triangles facilitates the use of relatively thin steel for construction of the 2fold. Four triangles work together in the cross section creating incredible strength and stability. As a result, the volume of the base of the table is just ¼ of the volume of the glass it supports. Minimise waste. 2fold was designed around the steel industry’s standard size for sheet steel in order to maximize yield and minimize waste. The outcome being that waste steel accounts for less than 4% per linier meter. 2fold is part of the 2d3d Group of tables which also include 3fold, a multi purpose desk and 2foldlow, a versatile occasional table. £600 to £12,000 |
