Colin O' Dowd is launching Plonk, an updated version of the chaise longue, Beat, a wall-mounted coat rack, and Big Bang side table.
Plonk (below left) combines the classic form of a chaise longue with a footstool in one fluid piece of contemporary furniture. It has been ecologically designed to minimise the quantity of materials used while still offering comfort. The chair has satin stainless steel legs with an upholstered laminated plywood seat and footrest (dimensions: L1475xW640xW540mm).
Beat (below right) is inspired by a cardiogram, making a feature out of an everyday object. It is made of powder-coated 8mm steel wire (dimensions: W530xH300xD45mm).
Big Bang consists of two side tables (dimensions: W500xH400x D400mm) that can be left together as one piece or pulled apart to form two side tables or magazine storage. It is made out of 3mm folded sheet metal. The design is based on the graphic of a cartoon explosion, with each point of the explosion usable as storage.
Colin trained as an architect, but soon turned to design. Using inexpensive materials, he has created a collection of accessible furniture and homeware that reinvent old forms for modern living spaces and lifestyles. He has exhibited at Furniture Works and Pulse.
