My approach to creating objects is eclectic. I like to explore possibilities that combinations of various techniques and materials offer in order to give objects an unusual and contemporary twist. Any inspirationally tactile materials, traditional or not, are used to convey underlying stories of ‘objects’ from personal lives. They are the products of childhood rituals in play in which memories are reconstructed in present contexts. Wearing them is a tangible representation of one’s existence, bridging intimate self and outer world, and is also about the beauty of the inconvenient fact of being trapped in a body. Nevertheless, the ultimate source of my inspiration lies in the nameless craftspeople who dedicated their lives to humble making, their fameless creations, which endured the centuries, such as surviving ceramics from the dawn of civilization. The handmade nature of individual items means shapes and sizes may vary slightly from piece to piece. £16 – £1,260 |
