Kingfisher B&Q brief - deadline Friday 13 July 2007
Exciting opportunity for Level 2 Hidden Art members to be selected to design Signature Products for B & Q in China and other countries – deadline Friday 13 July 5pm
Kingfisher is seeking to launch a range of Signature Products later this year for their B & Q stores in the following categories:
- lighting: spotlights, outdoor solar lighting or table lamps
- Storage: fitted and freestanding
- Bathrooms: mirrors, accessories
Kingfisher is looking for innovative and stylish products that excite customers and reflect current trends.
Those shortlisted will be asked to attend a meeting with Kingfisher on Monday morning 23rd July at which they will receive a brief as well as further details on the type of products that Kingfisher is looking for.
Kingfisher will arrange for manufacture and the selected designers will be invited to attend the prototype launch at the Hong Kong Lighting Fair (28 – 31 October) as well as visiting the relevant factories. It is envisaged that the first products will be in the B&Q stores in Spring 2008.
The project is a joint design initiative between UK Trade & Investment and Kingfisher plc. Hidden Art are partners in the project alongside Designersblock and Metropolitan Works.
How to apply
Hidden Art members interested in participating will have to be level 2 London members, who will be asked to join the Innovative Routes to Market project, which enables them to access specialist support as well as a £250 voucher. Further details on Innovative Routes to Market can be found at

You will need to submit a Powerpoint presentation which includes images of products or prototypes that reflect your style and capability as a designer. You do not need to submit any ideas at this stage. Please do not include any new designs you don’t want to be seen by anyone else. The powerpoint presentations will be shown to the Kingfisher selection panel and for those shortlisted on the Monday 23rd July. You will have to use the template which you can find below. (any other formats will not be accepted). You will also find here tips on putting together a Powerpoint presentation.
The deadline for submissions is Friday 13th June 5pm. At this stage you only need to submit the Powerpoint presentation. This should consist of no more than 5 slides: your company name, company background and three products with basic details. The Powerpoint presentation should be emailed to
tiffany@hiddenart.co.uk or delivered to our office.
Shortlisted candidates will be notified in the afternoon of Thursday 19th July. Should you be selected, please make sure that you will be able to attend the meeting at Kingfisher on the Monday 23rd July.
Fee
The selected designers will receive a £1000 design fee as well as a 5% royalty on production costs in addition to travel expenses paid to China and Hong Kong where required.
